Heavy duty cleaning of fuel tanks, refrigerator
containers, engine rooms, boiler fireside wash-downs
with no toxic or polluting properties:
Removal of crude oil and other petroleum products
from the holds of tankers - HYDROC should be sprayed
into the holds by low volume, high-pressure pumps
through the use of revolving spinner head, which
can be lowered into the hold. These types of operation
suggest the use of a 5% vee jet nozzle. The process
of spraying should commence as soon as possible
after the ship is empty, so as to prevent the formation
of volatile gases from the remaining crude oil or
other petroleum residue. Continue the pumping process
until HYDROC has covered the entire surface. For
best results this solution should be allowed to
set for about one hour, after which the Butterworth
system should be used for 30 to 45 minutes.
It is important to note, at this point, that HYDROC
solution can be left on the interior of the holds
for periods of time longer than 1 hour with no problem.
The initial hour is simply recommended to give it
time to break down the crude oil or like kind petroleum
products, and longer periods will not decrease its
efficiency, since complete evaporation will not
occur. Accordingly, the results will be the same
if Butterworthing is delayed 24 hours as if it were
done in sequence. After this procedure has been
completed, the hold should be clean and gas free.
If any gases do remain, however, then spray the
interior of the hold with a mixture of 1 part HYDROC
to 20 parts water through the revolving spinner-heads.
This will leave the tank gas free.
Because HYDROC holds oil in solution and breaks
it down to such a degree that it cannot stick back
together, this procedure can be completed without
fear of creating an oil-slick in the wake of the
ship. Once the reaction has occurred, the oil begins
to lose its identity as an oil and take on the characteristics
of a water-soluble. There are no reverse emulsions
with HYDROC.
Cleaning engine rooms with a mixture of 1 part HYDROC
to 5-10 parts water will emulsify grease and act
as a fire preventative as the product is non-flammable
and non-explosive.
Refrigerated containers may be cleaned with a solution
of 1 part HYDROC to 10-20 (or greater for lighter
soil) parts water. Cleaning with HYDROC will help
to eliminate the control odours, as well. Also,
successive cleaning should be easier once all the
soil has been removed.
Since HYDROC is non-fuming, enclosed areas such
as engine rooms, holds, and ship interiors will
not be subject to additional gases and fumes making
cleaning less hazardous to the personnel. No special
clothing, masks, gloves, or other safety gear is
required when cleaning with HYDROC
HYDROC works well when diluted with fresh or salt
water and is one of the few cleaning solutions,
which may be used in any body of water without harming
marine aquaculture, flora or fauna, and does not
alter marine eco-environmental systems.
